This is an occasional blog about food as it is laid out on the pages of world literature.

People have to eat, authors have to write – so food is an obvious source of literary inspiration. It appears again and again in all kinds of books; a small snack, a family meal, an imperial banquet all offering lingering mental images of the taste, the smell, and the look of food in all its multifarious manifestations.

Proust’s famous ‘Madeleine Moment’ is a vivid example of how food and imagination can combine elegantly, but here you will find many more such moments to feed your epicurean longings.
